A historic achievement unfolded as Ronaldo netted twice for Portugal during a 2-2 draw against Hungary on Tuesday. His first goal, coming in the 22nd minute, was a decisive strike that pushed him beyond former record-holder, Carlos Ruiz, with 40 goals. He further extended his tally to 41 with a second goal before halftime.
Although Portugal missed clinching early World Cup qualification following a late equalizer by Hungary, Ronaldo's feat leaves Portugal atop Group F, holding a firm lead over Hungary. The striker's international tally now stands at a remarkable 143 goals.
