Scorching Heat Grips Odisha: Jharsuguda Tops Nation's Temperature Charts
Odisha's Jharsuguda became India's hottest place, reaching 44.6°C. Twenty-five towns in the state saw temperatures soar above 40°C. Significant heatwave alert and school closure measures have been announced in several districts to combat the extreme weather conditions.

On Wednesday, Jharsuguda in Odisha claimed the dubious honor of being the hottest location in India, with temperatures reaching a sweltering 44.6 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The state's meteorological bulletin reported that 25 places recorded temperatures at or above 40 degrees, with four towns surpassing 43 degrees Celsius—among them, Talcher, Sambalpur, Hirakud, and Angul.
Heatwave warnings have been issued for Thursday in Bolangir, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur, prompting some district administrations to adjust school schedules or issue closures to protect children amid the rising temperatures.
