The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has successfully collected over Rs 80 crore as environment compensation charge (ECC) from commercial vehicles during the first quarter of this year. This initiative is part of the efforts to minimize air pollution by discouraging unnecessary vehicular movement in the city.
Data indicates that between January and April 2026, 4,00,672 commercial vehicles, including trucks and goods carriers, passed through 116 entry points, contributing significantly to MCD's revenue collection, which stood at over Rs 2.12 crore. Notably, there were no exemptions or waivers on the ECC during this period.
Looking ahead, the MCD plans to modernize the toll collection systems at entry points with an ANPR camera-based tolling system similar to modern highways. This effort promises seamless, non-stop toll collection, aiming to enhance operational efficiency at Delhi's 121 entry points.
