In response to soaring temperatures, authorities at the Birsa zoo in Jharkhand's Ranchi have taken proactive measures to protect the animals. These efforts include installing air coolers and providing seasonal fruits, multivitamins, and glucose supplements.
According to zoo veterinarian Dr. O P Sahu, carnivores such as lions and tigers, which are particularly vulnerable to heat, now benefit from air coolers in their enclosures. Additionally, paddy straw is being used as shade to help mitigate the intense heat.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for the region. With temperatures in some districts already reaching above 42 degrees Celsius, the zoo is stepping up its efforts to safeguard its inhabitants.
