On Saturday, senior BJP leaders launched a fierce attack on the Congress party, accusing it of 'betraying' women's aspirations by celebrating the defeat of a key Constitution Amendment Bill. The bill aimed to secure 33% reservation for women in legislatures by 2029 and proposed increasing the strength of the Lok Sabha.

Former Union ministers, including Smriti Irani and Ravi Shankar Prasad, held a press conference where they criticized Congress and its allies for allegedly rejoicing over the bill's defeat. Irani condemned the Congress for denying women's demands for political representation despite decades of advocacy across party lines.

Prasad warned that Congress's proposal based purely on population adjustments would reduce representation from southern states. He emphasized that without a proper delimitation exercise, revisions to Lok Sabha or state assembly seats are impossible, accusing Congress of misleading southern states on women's reservation.
