Tariq Hameed Karra, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress, has called for the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This demand arises from the government's inability to implement a Constitution amendment bill focused on women’s reservation, which Karra claims is a cover for a controversial delimitation endeavor.
In a meeting with party workers, Karra highlighted the Congress party’s historical advocacy for women’s rights, spotlighting the introduction of a 33% quota in Panchayati Raj institutions and the passage of a Women’s Reservation Bill in 2013. He criticized the BJP for not enforcing the unanimously passed bill in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Karra alleged that the government's strategy to delay statehood restoration for Jammu and Kashmir aims to manipulate electoral outcomes. He accused the Modi government of not honoring commitments to the Supreme Court regarding statehood restoration, urging party vigilance over electoral processes.
