Modi Criticizes DMK's 'U-Turn' on Women's Reservation Bill

Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted the DMK party over their opposition to the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha, accusing them of making a 'U-turn' on women's reservation despite previously supporting the initiative in 2023.

Addressing a rally in Coimbatore ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Modi claimed that DMK prioritizes politics over the welfare of women. The bill, which was intended to boost women's representation in Parliament, failed to gain the necessary two-thirds majority, with prominent opposition parties including DMK and Congress voting against it.

Modi criticized DMK's black flag protest in Tiruchirappalli as a failed attempt to obscure their true intentions, expressing confidence in NDA's growing support ahead of the elections. With the bill stalled, the government is expected to leverage this as a major campaign issue, while the opposition argues the bill links women's rights with census and delimitation, aiming to manipulate the electoral map.
