Crackdown on Air Pollution: Enforcement Measures Intensified in NCR

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) Enforcement Task Force has intensified its crackdown on pollution in the National Capital Region, following its 128th meeting. A total of 175 inspections were reviewed, spanning from March 14 to 26, leading to significant enforcement actions.
Propositions include the closure of 10 units, sealing of diesel generators for 27 units, and issuance of show cause notices to eight units. Environmental compensation has also been proposed for one unit. The inspections focused on major pollution contributors such as industrial units, construction activities, and biomass burning.
The sweep revealed 140 violations in Meerut and Faridabad, with local municipal bodies directed to take corrective actions. The CAQM emphasized the importance of robust enforcement, inter-agency coordination, and strict adherence to environmental norms to combat air pollution effectively.
