In a tragic turn of events, at least 12 people lost their lives as severe weather, including heavy rains, thunderstorms, and flash floods, swept across various provinces of Pakistan. Karachi was particularly hard-hit, with average precipitation of 30 to 45 mm causing urban flooding and disrupting daily life and traffic.
In response to the chaos, authorities declared an emergency in Karachi. Critical services like Edhi Trust and Chippa Welfare confirmed five deaths caused by electrocution and collapsing structures. Cold winds uprooted signboards and trees, while many areas suffered power outages as the rains continued.
Other areas like Balochistan reported seven deaths and widespread destruction of property and livestock. A passenger bus was carried away by floods in Killa Abdullah, and rescue efforts are ongoing. Officials warn that further rain could exacerbate the situation, raising the risks of landslides and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) in mountainous regions.
