On Thursday, JD(U) legislator Saryu Roy demanded a thorough investigation into the death of hundreds of fish in the Swarnarekha River, attributing the incident to water pollution caused by residential and industrial effluents.
During his inspection of the Babudih and Lal Bhata river ghats, Roy observed that, three days post-incident, the riverbanks were still lined with dead fish, many of which were infested with worms and emanated a foul odor. He further reported that the river water had turned black.
Accusing the State Pollution Control Board of negligence, Roy pointed out the absence of online data regarding pollutant discharge. He urged the deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum, the pollution control board, and the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee to disclose the measures taken to combat the pollution.
