J&K Approves Vital Tunnel Project for Machil Sector
The Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, announced the approval of a tunnel project to ensure all-weather connectivity for Machil sector residents. The initiative aims to alleviate winter connectivity issues due to heavy snowfall, with an ongoing Detailed Project Report for the 2026-27 Annual Works Plan.

In a significant development, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary unveiled plans for a tunnel connecting Machil sector to the hinterlands at Z-Gali in Kupwara. This strategic project has been sanctioned to provide consistent connectivity for residents, especially during heavy snowfall seasons.
Addressing a query from National Conference Legislator, Qaysar Jamshaid Lone, in the Legislative Assembly, Choudhary stated the tunnel received clearance under the 'Other than Capital Acquisition' head, with a Detailed Project Report being prepared for inclusion in the 2026-27 Annual Works Plan. This initiative is crucial to mitigating the adversities faced by residents due to winter disruptions.
Choudhary highlighted that mechanisms are set up for advance planning and provisions during harsh winters, ensuring essential services are available to remote communities. Additionally, there have been local demands for another tunnel linking Lolab in Kupwara with Bandipora, underlining its strategic importance.
