The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has approved a landmark bill facilitating the establishment of private universities. Named the Private Universities Bill, it was presented by Education Minister Sakeena Itoo.
The law focuses on creating robust private educational institutions, standardizing academic quality, and safeguarding student interests within the Union Territory, as emphasized by Itoo.
Though several amendments were suggested by MLAs including Mir Saifullah and Balwant Singh Mankotia, all were either withdrawn or rejected, allowing the bill to pass following a decisive voice vote.
