Fresh snowfall graced the higher reaches of Kashmir on Saturday, triggered by a powerful western weather disturbance. This atmospheric phenomenon brought significant rains to the plains, leading to a notable drop in temperatures, according to official sources.

The wintry conditions resulted in the closure of critical inter-district roads across Jammu and Kashmir, including Sadhna Top, Mughal Road, and the Sinthan Top, among others. Key thoroughfares such as the Srinagar-Leh national highway were shuttered due to snow accumulation, especially around the Zojila Pass, officials confirmed.

The meteorological department forecast that light to moderate rain or snow would persist intermittently until late Saturday, with gradual improvement anticipated by evening. However, isolated areas may experience heavy rain, increasing the threat of flash floods and landslides, with weather conditions likely to remain volatile intermittently through mid-April.
