The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was engulfed in turmoil on Saturday, the last day of the Budget Session, as calls for a judicial investigation into the recent Ganderbal encounter intensified. Members from the National Conference, Congress, and PDP pressured for an inquiry following allegations that the victim, Rashid Ahmad Mughal, had no terrorism links.

Despite the army's insistence on Mughal's terrorist identity, his family demanded the return of his body and condemned the encounter as fake. In response to growing public concern, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha ordered a magisterial probe, calling for a report within a week.

Amid these demands, legislators emphasized the need for justice, transparency, and a fair judicial investigation, while the Speaker assured that a time-bound inquiry was underway, highlighting the evolving discourse around the principle of accountability in conflict settings.
