Daylight Drone Strike: Russia Strikes Central Ukraine Amid Escalating Conflict
A rare daytime drone attack by Russia on Ukraine killed four people in Cherkasy and damaged infrastructure in the west. The attack, part of a surge in drone warfare during the five-year conflict, prompted air alerts and disrupted power to thousands, highlighting the ongoing escalations.
Russia launched an uncommon daytime drone strike on Ukraine on Wednesday, resulting in four fatalities in the central Cherkasy region and damaging energy infrastructure and industrial facilities in the country’s western areas, according to Ukrainian officials.
Cherkasy governor Ihor Taburets reported that the four victims were outside during an air alert when they were killed. He urged residents to seek shelter as the attack continued. Western regions including Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Zakarpattia also faced drone assaults, with Zakarpattia governor Myroslav Biletskyi confirming hits on critical infrastructure near the Slovakian and Hungarian borders.
Power cuts affected approximately 11,000 customers in the Ivano-Frankivsk region due to the strikes. With the conflict in its fifth year, both nations have increased their use of drones, which typically occur overnight for stealth. The ongoing conflict sees an escalation in such high-stakes aerial strategies.
