Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov is embarking on a pivotal two-day visit to India, commencing Thursday, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations amid ongoing global tensions. His agenda includes dialogues with prominent Indian figures such as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Central to these discussions is the procurement of an additional batch of five S-400 missile systems from Russia, decided against the backdrop of their proven efficacy in recent conflicts. India originally signed a USD 5 billion deal with Russia in 2018 for these systems, undeterred by potential US sanctions under CAATSA.
Furthermore, Manturov's visit will cover deliberations on the West Asia conflict's implications on the global economy, particularly the energy sector. Both nations plan to assess the implementation of decisions made during the Modi-Putin summit, aiming to enhance economic cooperation and elevate annual trade to USD 100 billion by 2030.
