Maharashtra is on a mission to enhance its greenery, aiming to boost its forest cover to 33% through the planting of 300 crore trees. This ambitious goal was highlighted by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the 'Vriksh Vardhan: 2nd International Arboriculture Conference 2026.'
Arboriculture, the study of growing trees and shrubs, is central to this initiative, providing expert care akin to 'doctors for trees,' said Fadnavis. He underscored the role of technology in assessing tree health and planning plantations scientifically.
The initiative will involve arboriculturists and tech startups for its implementation, with a strategy informed by agro-climatic data and soil conditions. Despite development pressures, Fadnavis emphasized the state's commitment to increasing green cover responsibly.
