The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that Cyclone Montha will trigger heavy rain across West Bengal until Friday. As the cyclone loses steam after making landfall, south Bengal can expect light to moderate showers, while heavy rainfall is predicted in north Bengal regions.
The meteorological office forecasts heavy rainfall, measuring between 7 and 11 centimeters, in districts such as South 24 Parganas and Purulia through Friday. In the north, districts like Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri might witness up to 20 centimeters of rain on Friday.
Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea along the West Bengal coast until Thursday due to potential thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning, which are expected to sweep through Kolkata and nearby areas.
