Severe Cyclone Montha Approaches Andhra Pradesh Coastline
Cyclonic storm 'Montha' in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm. It is moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast and is expected to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam. Heavy rains and high winds are forecasted across the southern state.

A severe cyclonic storm named 'Montha' is causing concern along the Andhra Pradesh coastline, the Meteorological Department reports. Montha has intensified as it moves north-northwestwards from the westcentral Bay of Bengal at 15 kmph.
As of 5.30 am, the cyclone was positioned 190 km south to southeast of Machilipatnam, 270 km south to southeast of Kakinada, and 340 km south to southeast of Vizag. The department has issued warnings for heavy rainfall and strong winds.
Expected to strike between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, Montha may unleash wind speeds up to 110 kmph. Authorities are preparing for the storm's impact, anticipated by Tuesday evening. The name 'Montha,' meaning fragrant flower in Thai, belies its potential for destruction.
