The government announced on Friday its active collaboration with the private sector to build domestic capacity for e-waste recycling and critical mineral recovery. This was followed last month by the approval of a substantial Rs 1,500 crore incentive scheme.

The National Critical Mineral Mission's initiative aims to sustain the supply chain in the near term, according to Mines Ministry sources. Guidelines for the scheme, shaped after stakeholder consultations, were issued earlier this month.

The application process began on October 2, 2025, attracting stakeholder involvement and appreciation. The scheme focuses on recycling e-waste, spent LIBs, and scrap converters using advanced technologies, with IITs and CSIR aiding with research and training in relevant processes.
