The Congress party's women's wing has initiated a 'postcard campaign' to press for the implementation of 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha. Their target is to gather 10 lakh postcards addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Led by All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba, the campaign highlights the need for immediate enactment of the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023', with specific reservations for OBC, SC, and ST women. Lamba urged for a caste census to assist in a fair delimitation exercise.
This initiative follows the recent defeat of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in Parliament, which sought to increase Lok Sabha seats to 816 for operationalizing women's reservations. The Congress urges government action in the next parliamentary session or a special session.
