In a bold critique, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav branded Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent padyatra as a rehearsal for the Bharatiya Janata Party's stint in opposition. Yadav was responding to the padyatra, which was organized following the defeat of a constitutional amendment bill aimed at implementing women’s reservation in legislatures.
Yadav, addressing reporters, asserted that the 'Jan Aakrosh Mahila Padyatra', which began from Adityanath’s residence and concluded at the UP Assembly, represents a unique instance of a ruling party laboring to pass legislation of its own making. The Samajwadi leader referenced the PDA alliance—comprising backward classes, Dalits, and minorities—as a formidable force expected to redefine the state’s political landscape by establishing a government founded on social justice.
Expressing his belief in the opposition's momentum, Yadav emphasized the recent historic defeat of the BJP sponsored Constitutional Bill as a testament to the power of democracy, lauding voters and allies for their role. He also accused the ruling party of dodging a caste census, alleging that the BJP’s strategies mirror those of totalitarian propaganda, and questioned the administration's commitment to women's safety amidst ongoing concerns.
