UP's Jan Aakrosh March: A Protest for Women's Representation

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led a significant protest march on Tuesday against the defeat of a bill intended to increase women's participation in the Indian parliament. The proposed Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill aimed to bolster women's representation and increase the Lok Sabha seats to 816. However, the bill faced a setback when it was defeated in the Lower House last Friday.

The 'Jan Aakrosh Malia Padyatra' began from the Chief Minister's official residence on Kalidas Marg and aimed to conclude at the UP Assembly. Addressing supporters, Adityanath emphasized that the march reflects national discontent, particularly from women, against the 'anti-women' stance of Congress, Samajwadi Party, TMC, and DMK. He stressed the march as a profound symbol of the country’s collective disappointment.

Key political figures, including Adityanath's deputies Keshav Prasad Maury and Brajesh Pathak, joined the demonstration alongside BJP leaders. The protest underscores a broader call for action by the state government, noting that the failed passage of the amendment has profoundly affected the hopes of millions of women nationwide.
