Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Tuesday that the BJP intends to resolve the Gorkha issue, a decades-old conflict, within six months after forming a government in West Bengal.

Speaking at an election rally in Kurseong, Darjeeling, Shah criticized previous administrations for failing to meet the Gorkhas' aspirations and claimed only the BJP could properly address their concerns.

He also addressed the deletion of Gorkha names from electoral rolls, promising their restoration with a new BJP-led government. The issue stems from longstanding statehood demands in the Gorkha-dominated regions of north Bengal.
