Péter Magyar, leader of Hungary's centre-right Tisza party, announced his cabinet's nominees on Monday, marking a shift from the previous administration. Winners of a historic election victory, the Tisza party plans to emphasize democracy restoration and anti-corruption measures.
Magyar's announcement follows his party's landslide defeat of Viktor Orbán, the long-serving prime minister. The new government, aiming to undo many of Orbán's policies, will expand the number of ministries from 12 to 16, a strategic move to address broad governance issues. Notable nominations include Anita Orbán as minister of foreign affairs, István Kapitány for economy and energy, and András Kármán for finance.
The incoming prime minister, Magyar, underlined a commitment to restructuring Hungary’s political landscape, advocating for new ministries in health, environmental protection, and education. The new parliament session is slated for early May, where cabinet confirmations will commence, setting the stage for a transformational political era in Hungary.
