The recent failure of the Women's Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha has rekindled fierce political and ideological debates. BJP MP Giriraj Singh has unleashed a scathing critique of Congress and its allies, accusing them of a long-standing pattern of sabotaging women's empowerment in India.
Drawing from historical instances, Singh highlighted the opposition's consistent resistance to women's reservation bills, dating back to similar attempts in 1996 under then-Prime Ministers Deve Gowda and Vajpayee. He pointed out that attempts to pass the bill through the years have been met with staunch opposition, including acts of tearing the bill apart in the House.
Singh's fiery rhetoric has emphasized the contrast between public aspirations for gender equality and what he describes as the opposition's unchanged stance. Meanwhile, the opposition argues that the current bill is intentionally tied to census and delimitation to delay implementation, accusing the government of political maneuvering.
