A political storm has erupted following the defeat of the Women's Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, with sharp exchanges between the Samajwadi Party and the BJP. Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad criticized the BJP's position, calling it 'baseless and beyond facts,' while emphasizing his party's support for women's reservation.

Prasad insisted that the Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav, is committed to advancing women's rights and ensuring their representation in Indian politics. Meanwhile, BJP leader Smriti Irani defended the legislation at a press conference, arguing that the bill intends to empower women with political aspirations, countering accusations of creating a new vote bank.

Irani highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's longstanding support from women voters and ridiculed Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for her alleged disconnect with grassroots women's empowerment initiatives. The bill faced opposition from various quarters, resulting in its failure to pass, as the Lok Sabha needed a two-thirds majority for its approval.
