The defeat of the delimitation bill in Lok Sabha has laid bare the BJP's discomfort, according to TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Addressing concerns, he insisted the NDA government must prioritize implementing women's reservation without delay.
Banerjee's remarks came after the proposed legislation to increase women's representation in legislatures by 33 percent and expand Lok Sabha seats was rejected. Citing opposition from the INDIA bloc and fairness concerns, he highlighted the political ramifications of this legislative impasse.
Stressing TMC's proactive stance, Banerjee pointed out that the party had surpassed the legislative obligations by ensuring over 41 percent representation of women in Parliament. The opposition seeks to delink women's reservation from the delimitation exercise.
