During a heated session in the Lok Sabha, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing critique of the government's proposed constitution amendment bill, claiming it masquerades as a measure for women's empowerment while recalibrating the electoral landscape to maintain power.
Gandhi accused the government of attempting to bypass the caste census and avoid enhancing representation for OBCs, Dalits, and minorities, asserting this action as a dangerous precedent. He highlighted the overarching agenda as 'Manuvaad over Samvidhan' and argued that the bill threatens to erode representation for southern, northeastern, and smaller states.
The Congress leader urged the reinstatement of the 2023 Women's Reservation Act for true empowerment, assuring opposition support. He reiterated the opposition's resolve to oppose any undermining of marginalized communities' rights and warned of the bill's divisive implications.
