In a fierce critique, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP-controlled central government of using an amendment to the women's quota law as smoke and mirrors for the controversial Delimitation Bill.
Addressing a poll rally, Banerjee alleged that the move is a precursor to a strategy that would "break the country into pieces." The legislation, introduced in the Lok Sabha, aims to increase Lok Sabha seats to 850, allegedly to support women's reservation but, according to Banerjee, posing a threat to national unity.
The TMC leader emphasized steadfast opposition to the bill, while also contending Prime Minister Modi's claims about the development progress in north Bengal, urging verification of the government's spending.
