Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of Punjab has fiercely criticized the BJP-led central government, alleging an attempt to undermine democracy through a series of Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids. Targeting non-BJP leaders, Mann stated that these actions are clear signs of political intimidation as the nation gears up for upcoming assembly elections.
The raids, including those against state minister Sanjeev Arora, have stirred political controversy. Arora, who has faced similar investigations in the past, assured the public of his cooperation with authorities, expressing confidence in his eventual vindication. Just days before, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Kumar Mittal was also targeted in such probes, drawing widespread attention.
During a news conference, Mann accused the BJP of preparing for the 2027 Punjab elections by sabotaging opponents rather than finding competitive candidates. He expressed strong disapproval of what he perceives as an attack on non-BJP state governments, stating that democracy is being 'murdered.' Mann emphasizes the need for fair political practices amidst growing tension.
