On Wednesday, Lt Gen VMB Krishnan took over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command, marking a significant leadership transition within the Indian Army. With nearly four decades of extensive military experience, Lt Gen Krishnan succeeds Lt Gen R C Tiwari, who retired at the end of March.
This strategic appointment is part of broader changes in the Army's command structure. Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh now leads the Western Command, an area critical during Operation Sindoor following the Pahalgam terror attack. Lt Gen Singh previously served as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff and follows in the footsteps of Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar.
Lt Gen Sandeep Jain has assumed command of the Southern Command, succeeding Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, who was integral to Operation Sindoor. These appointments highlight the Army's focus on operational preparedness and strategic integration across various commands.
