Ram Pada Jamatia Nominated for Tripura Speaker Post

BJP MLA Ram Pada Jamatia has officially filed his nomination for the Speaker position in the Tripura Assembly, a step that comes with backing from both his BJP colleagues and coalition partner, the Tipra Motha Party.
This vacancy in the Speaker's chair arose after Biswa Bandhu Sen's passing in December 2025. Known for his leadership in the tribal community, Jamatia's nomination has received public acknowledgment from BJP Chief Whip Kalyani Roy on social media. She expressed her support and admiration as Jamatia, accompanied by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath, submitted his papers.
With the ruling coalition's substantial 46-seat majority in the 60-member Assembly, Jamatia's election appears nearly guaranteed. The opposition, holding only 13 seats, stands little chance against the coalition's nominee when the election takes place on Wednesday.
