Tripura's 'Mountain of Debt': Congress Critiques BJP's Fiscal Policy

Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Asish Kumar Saha leveled serious allegations against the ruling BJP in a press briefing Tuesday, accusing them of plunging the northeastern state into a significant debt crisis.

Saha described the budget presented by the state government as the 'most fraudulent attempt' to mask its fiscal mismanagement. He claimed that the state's debts have surged from Rs 11,000 crore in 2018 to Rs 27,000 crore, raising concerns over fiscal responsibility.

Highlighting the government's shortfall in fulfilling its promises, Saha criticized the BJP for planning tax increases to raise revenue, pointing out the burden on citizens through escalated sales tax, road cess, excise duty, and electricity tariff hikes.
