Gas Supply Chain Woes in Andhra Pradesh: A Deep Dive into the State's LPG Crisis

The state of Andhra Pradesh is grappling with an LPG shortage that threatens to disrupt the operations of hotels and eateries. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu assured citizens that a reserve of 14,000 tons is in place, sufficient to meet demand for the next 15 days, with more stock expected.

At a review meeting with officials at the Real Time Governance System, the Chief Minister emphasized strengthening the gas supply chain, including the implementation of e-KYC and OTP systems to prevent illegal LPG cylinder diversions. Naidu also urged officials to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to vital services and called for increasing induction stove availability.

Despite these measures, several hotels are temporarily closing due to difficulties in procuring gas. Hospitality industry representatives highlight the struggles of maintaining operations amid supply shortages, drawing parallels to pandemic-induced challenges. The state's infrastructure for natural gas, including CNG and PNG, is being expanded to alleviate long-term pressure.
