In a unified demand, a group of 204 retired officers, diplomats, and lawyers have insisted that Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, issue a public apology for his recent conduct within Parliament premises. The signatories criticized Gandhi's actions during a protest on March 12, describing them as a 'violation' of decorum and institutional dignity.
Gandhi, accused of using Parliament as a platform for 'political theatrics,' allegedly led a protest defying explicit instructions prohibiting such demonstrations. Former Jammu and Kashmir DGP S P Vaid, among others, noted that the conduct undermines the sanctity of parliamentary authority.
The group emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity of democratic institutions, expressing concern over the 'loss of valuable public time' due to disruptions. They urged Gandhi and other leaders to be accountable and conscious of their symbolic role in maintaining the credibility of India's parliamentary democracy.
