Parliament Approves Additional Rs 2.01 Lakh Crore Spending

In a significant fiscal maneuver, the Indian Parliament on Tuesday sanctioned supplementary demands for grants, thereby authorizing the expenditure of an additional Rs 2.01 lakh crore in the current fiscal year.

The Rajya Sabha returned the Appropriation Bill 2026 to the Lok Sabha, following a voice vote, and after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed discussions on the proposed grants.

This legislative decision reflects gross additional expenditures of Rs 2.81 lakh crore, offset by projected additional receipts amounting to Rs 80,000 crore, ultimately resulting in a net additional expenditure of Rs 2.01 lakh crore.
