In a bold move, the Punjab Assembly unanimously passed a resolution on Thursday, pinning the blame for the nationwide LPG shortages and price hikes on the Centre's foreign policy failures. The motion, introduced by Punjab's Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, received backing from both treasury and opposition benches—though notably missing were two BJP MLAs.
The resolution alleges that geopolitical tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the US have delivered a significant blow to the Indian economy, exacerbated by the Centre's missteps. The National Restaurant Association, facing operational obstacles due to the shortage, has warned of industry-wide closures without immediate resolution.
Critics, including AAP MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains, cautioned that the crisis not only jeopardizes industries but also deepens public hardships, urging urgent governmental intervention. The Assembly's censure motion is a clear call for action and revision of foreign policy from the Modi-led government.
