Retailers in Delhi are experiencing a significant surge in the sale of induction cooktops, with some witnessing an increase of up to 80% in purchases. This rise comes as consumers express concerns over a potential shortage of LPG, prompting a shift towards electric cooking appliances.
Shopkeepers such as Amit Gupta of Effects Kitchens and Hardware have noted a high influx of both walk-in customers and phone inquiries, as households, previously reliant on LPG, now seek electric alternatives like infrared stoves and compatible utensils.
The government has prioritized LPG production amid the shortage, but restaurants and smaller eateries, heavily dependent on LPG cylinders, are struggling, with some forced to shut down temporarily or explore alternatives like coal or wood-based cooking.
