In Kerala, CPI(M) inaugurated part of NH-66 ahead of Prime Minister Modi's event, stirring controversy over protocol and political motives. The exclusion of State PWD Minister Riyas, the CM's son-in-law, from the PM's function led to tensions, with BJP dismissing claims of impropriety.

In a politically charged move, CPI(M) in Kerala took swift action on Wednesday by inaugurating a stretch of NH-66 before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled dedication. The gesture was seen as a protest against the exclusion of State PWD Minister P A Mohammed Riyas from the PM's event.
State BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar criticized the protest, asserting that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was invited per protocol and any family grievances should not be conflated with official events. The planned inauguration spark was further ignited by a scheduled roadshow by Riyas on a different part of the highway.
Amidst the growing political tension, questions loomed over CPI(M)'s strategy, especially with upcoming elections. While some ministers claimed personal reasons for not attending the PM's event, BJP questioned the absence of prior communication if any adjustments were necessary.
