The much-anticipated election for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) in Meghalaya is slated for April 10, as confirmed by an official notification on Monday. Candidates have until March 16 to submit their nominations, while March 17 marks the deadline for withdrawal. Symbol allocation and the announcement of valid nominations will occur on March 18.
The polls are scheduled to run from 7 am to 4 pm on April 10, with the counting of votes set for April 14. This election is significant, with the current council dominantly led by the National People's Party (NPP), holding 19 seats in the 30-member council.
The opposition includes members from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) with nine seats, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) having two seats, one of which aligns with the ruling party. The political dynamics promise a gripping election showdown.
