Tarique Rahman: From Exile to Prime Minister - A Political Odyssey

Tarique Rahman, having lived in self-exile in London for 17 years, has emerged to lead the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to a historic triumph. The son of BNP's founder, Rahman turned the tides by securing a landslide victory in Bangladesh's latest elections, becoming Prime Minister at 60.

Under Rahman's leadership, BNP claimed 209 of 297 seats. Meanwhile, the Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina, faced a setback as they were barred from contesting the elections. Rahman's campaign emphasized reconciliation and restraint, despite past political tensions, earning him significant public support.

Rahman returns to a nation grappling with economic and governance challenges, amid concerns over party discipline and past allegations of corruption. As Prime Minister, he aims to recalibrate international relations, diversify economic dependencies, and promote national unity in a polarized political landscape.
