Protest Erupts over Indore's Water Contamination Tragedy

On Tuesday, Congress legislators demonstrated at the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, carrying bottles of 'contaminated' water to protest recent fatalities in Indore due to water contamination. This symbolic protest was spearheaded by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, who highlighted the gravity of the situation.

During the protest, Singhar asserted that 35 people had died in Indore's Bhagirathpura area from the tainted water, countering the state government's lower death count claim. He urged the resignation of state Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, demanding accountability and improvement in water safety measures.

The demonstration also called attention to discrepancies between the governor's address about clean water and the actual conditions. Emphasizing access to clean water as a public right, Singhar critiqued the government's inaction. A judicial inquiry is underway following the tragedy, with conflicting reports on the death toll.
