In the midst of a heated power-sharing debate with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Congress MP Manickam Tagore has called for greater respect from the Dravidian party, stressing the importance of mutual respect within the alliance. Tagore, addressing reporters on Sunday, underlined that Congress supporters are 'humans, not robots' and implied that their acknowledgement in the alliance is vital for DMK's continuing hold on power.
Tagore expressed disappointment over the DMK high command's silence regarding derogatory comments made by DMK functionaries against the Congress. He emphasized that the Congress was instrumental to DMK's electoral success and criticized the absence of disciplinary action against DMK leaders who spoke ill of Congress.
The Congress leader reiterated heartfelt relations between DMK chief M K Stalin and Congress' Rahul Gandhi, urging a cooperative spirit to solve existing disagreements. With upcoming elections in mind, Tagore conveyed the Congress' intent to secure notable constituencies such as Madurai North as part of their strategic aspirations.
