Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has characterized the upcoming Budgam bye-election as a significant political trial, highlighting the intricate voter distribution and the internal political dynamics at play. Abdullah expressed optimism, asserting faith in the voters' focus on vital issues like electricity, roads, water supply, employment, and health.
Addressing the media, Abdullah said, 'We perceive this bye-election as a formidable challenge due to the complex voter demographics in Budgam and the added nuances of internal politics. However, I am confident that the people will prioritize everyday concerns such as infrastructure and welfare schemes.' The election features National Conference's Agha Mehmood, PDP's Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, and AAP's Deeba Khan as contenders.
Omar Abdullah previously secured victories in both Ganderbal and Budgam during the 2024 Assembly Elections against the PDP. The Election Commission of India recently declared that bye-elections for eight assembly constituencies will take place on November 11. Results are expected on November 14, coinciding with the Bihar Assembly polls. Abdullah also expressed concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, advising the Election Commission against precipitate nationwide implementation.
