A Turkish court has intensified its crackdown on opposition by issuing a fresh arrest order against Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, cited for 'political espionage' by Anadolu news agency.
Imamoglu, who has been jailed since March on separate charges, claims innocence, dubbing the allegations as 'shameful indecency.'
This legal decision affects others, including Tele1 editor Merdan Yanardag, as opposition leaders label the charges an attempt to eliminate political threats, while some pressure was relieved when a court dismissed attempts to annul CHP's leadership.
