In a move to combat rising espionage threats, Poland has detained two Ukrainians accused of collecting detailed information on Polish soldiers and crucial infrastructure. The incident forms part of broader efforts by Warsaw to counter alleged intelligence activities by Russia and Belarus, as they attempt to destabilize pro-Ukraine nations.
According to Tomasz Siemoniak, Poland's Minister in Charge of Special Services, this represents an intensification of sabotage activities against the country. While Moscow has denied these accusations, Poland has reported facing tactics like arson and cyberattacks amid its ongoing support for Ukraine during the war.
The two suspects, aged 32 and 34, were apprehended in Katowice on October 14. Poland's Internal Security Agency disclosed that the individuals had gathered sensitive military intelligence, conducted reconnaissance, and installed surveillance devices on critical infrastructure. Both suspects remain in custody as they await trial.
