In a pivotal move to refine electoral accuracy, Janata Dal (United) leader Neeraj Kumar has underscored the urgent need to update India's voter rolls, citing the presence of duplicate and deceased entries. Despite political opposition from Congress, Kumar noted that the judiciary did not align with such objections, strengthening the Election Commission of India's (ECI) mandate to execute the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

'It is crucial to revise voter lists to eliminate duplicates and deceased voters,' Kumar stated, highlighting Congress's political resistance to the SIR. He reinforced the ECI's authority as a constitutional body to conduct such revisions. Details on the nationwide SIR are anticipated during the Election Commission's forthcoming press conference scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Elsewhere, Suvendu Adhikari, West Bengal's Leader of Opposition, voiced parallel concerns, citing inaccuracies in the state's voter lists, including the presence of deceased and 'fake voters.' He called for the rectification of these errors ahead of the revision process. Adhikari, referencing past election results, expressed optimism for the BJP's improved performance in the Bhowanipore constituency following voter list corrections.
