In a significant political shift, former RJD leader Anil Sahani joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday. His induction came three years after a CBI court convicted him for fraud, leading to his disqualification from the Bihar assembly.
Sahani's move to the BJP was announced in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and national general secretary Vinod Tawde, signaling the party's strategic outreach to the Nishad community, an influential group in Sahani's home district of Muzaffarpur.
The ex-RJD leader was previously found guilty of using forged air tickets to claim Leave Travel Concession in 2012 during his tenure as a Rajya Sabha MP. Sahani had a narrow win in the 2020 assembly elections but was disqualified, leading to a BJP victory in the subsequent bypoll.
