Riding the Ballot: West Bengal Eases Motorbike Rules for 2026 Elections

In a bid to ensure smooth polling during the 2026 assembly elections, West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer, Manoj Agarwal, has eased restrictions on motorcycle travel. The curbs, initially imposed to prevent voter intimidation and unauthorized gatherings, have been relaxed for office workers bearing valid identification.

The revised guidelines, outlined in a fresh order, allow motorcycle travel two days prior to polling and on election day, with exemptions for app-based service providers. Field officers are tasked with verifying the authenticity of commuter identities to prevent misuse.

Kolkata Police has stated that, despite the relaxations, motorbike rallies remain banned and travel restrictions apply during nighttime, with specific exceptions. These measures underscore the commitment to a fair, peaceable election process.
